IN THIS LESSON

In this lesson, we break down some of the core concepts that guide how we train and why CrossFit is designed the way it is. You’ll learn about the 10 General Physical Skills that make up our definition of fitness and why we aim to develop balanced ability across all of them rather than specializing in just one area. We’ll also explore the three metabolic pathways your body uses to produce energy and how different workout time domains help improve your overall work capacity. From there, we discuss the Sickness–Wellness–Fitness Continuum, which explains how consistent training and healthy habits can move you toward better long-term health and away from chronic disease. Finally, we talk about intensity, why it drives results, and why we always prioritize mechanics first, consistency second, and intensity last to ensure you train safely while still making progress. This lesson helps you understand the philosophy behind our programming and the bigger purpose behind the work you’ll be doing in the gym.
