Since starting to lift with Vehement Elite Athletics, I have felt much more confident in my weightlifting. This is due to the programming done by Christian & his coaching. Something that I realized was a big factor for me was the music. I know it sounds silly but music really plays a factor in my mood. I used to listen to explicit hip hop music but that just made me angry when i missed or when my lifts weren’t feeling great. I started to notice that more and more so I switched it up to coffeehouse music or country & I noticed it makes me happy and calm.
I remember when I was in a CrossFit class and I was doing an AMRAP that required you to take your time but the music was playing at a rate of 170+ BPM when really amped me up and I did not like it, I didn’t know how to find my pace. Should music affect me this much? No, but it does and I try to tune it out but when I feel the bass of 170+ per minute I get really stressed! Anyways, find music that helps you keep a steady workout or helps you reach the intent of the workout for the day. When I coach, I try to cater to your music taste & the intention of the workout.
