Now that we are in the thick of the Nutrition Challenge, hopefully we are starting to gain a little more understanding of the types of food that our bodies need to operate well! We all know there are so many different types of fad diets out there. Quick fixes, waist trainers, paleo, keto, gluten free- it can be overwhelming to try and navigate through what is best for each individual. There is one thing, however, that reigns true for every single person, and the foundation of every nutrition plan- Eat REAL FOOD. Not too much. MOSTLY PLANTS!
If we can break this down a little bit: Real food. We want to avoid products- products are made by companies, whose only goal is to get you as the consumer to purchase more food. They accomplish this by feeding our natural addiction to sugars and trans fats. On the other hand, REAL foods- perimeter of the grocery store, don’t need a nutrition label foods, are going to be our best choice because we know exactly what is going in to our bodies!
Not too much- this one is very straight forward. We want to focus on the quality of the food that we eat, versus the quantity. Foods that are high in fiber are going to keep us fuller longer, and fill us up quicker. If you find that you are frequently hungry, this could be a sign of dehydration!
Mostly plants- If we are eating real foods, and focusing on fiber/nutrient dense foods, it is natural that the next step would be to fill our plate mostly with plants. Vegetables and fruits are loaded with essential vitamins that keep your body healthy, moving, your inflammation down, your antibodies up, and a number of other wonderful things that you need to thrive! Eat your veggies and fruits, and ensure that you are getting all of your wonderful vitamins!
