Should teachers assign homework, and why? This was a discussion in one of my recent classes that really got me thinking. I have had so much homework throughout my life and have complained about it constantly. Of course my initial response to this question was NO! Then the discussion began and my professor related homework to other areas of our lives. Activities we enjoy like cooking, drawing, building, and fitness. How do we get better at the activities we enjoy? We do our research and put in the practice outside of the “classroom”.
This being said, my challenge for you is to do your homework! Want to get stronger at pull ups, more patient on double unders, finally walk upside down on your hands? Stay after class and do your homework. There are even plenty of movements you can do at home, consider pushups, hollow body holds, and jumping rope. You do not need to be at the gym to get your practice in. You can start by asking a coach, or simply googling an article or youtubing a video. Next you put in the work and practice everyday.
I like to think of homework as continued practice outside of the classroom that will benefit my performance in whatever skill I am trying to improve!
