I believe that HEALTH in broad terms incompasses many different aspects of life but one of the components that are important enough to note is financial health. What does this mean and how does it help?
Taking an interest in your own finances can have a profound impact on your lifestyle, on your stress levels, and your outlook on things you can and can’t make happen. For Liz and I, one of the most integral parts to our continued joy is creating a monthly budget. This isn’t like a diet where we don’t spend money on certain things or we can’t have other things. The budget is the tool that we use to measure and KNOW where our money is going. We use a 0 based budget which means every month, every dollar we make has a place in our budget. It helps us set and create goals, it helps us stay sane with vacations, it helps us do things like attack debt and pay it off like a mad man.
When Liz and I got married in April 2018 we set a goal to pay off all of our debt in 1 year. That is a lofty goal considering it was over $30,000…. We are proud to say that just 18 months after that goal, we are 100% DEBT FREE. Through quite a bit of sacrifice, hard work, and telling our money where to go, we were able to completely pay off all our debt.
If you are interested in learning how to take a handle on your finances I would suggest the book “Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey. You might have heard his name over the past 20 years. In my opinion he has a really effective method for people who want to create solid habits that rely on behaviors, not math, to drive you to financial freedom.
Cheers to the future,
